I LOVE – Archipelago Cinema. Located off Kudu Island in Thailand
Tilda Swinton is a bit of a goddess. For most people it would be enough to just live life as a screen siren, but not for Tilda, who likes to muck in on other insanely brilliant project as well.
In collaboration with Apichatpong Weerasethakul, director of the excellent ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ she has launched ‘Film on the Rocks Yao Noi’ a conceptual film festival, held on a floating ‘auditorium raft’ off the coast of Thailand’s beautiful Kudu Island.
The idea behind the festival is not only to develop an experiential cinema that extends beyond visual to environmental, but to engage audiences in a way that other filmic events do not. Part of the trip to the world’s first ocean based theatre will be their ‘Message in a Bottle’ concept, in which attendees are required to bring their own ‘message’ which can be anything from a sculpture to a performance, to be preserved in the ‘Message in a Bottle Library.’ I’m not entirely what that means, but I know it sounds amazing.
