Cassina has announced a new photography series shot by the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. The series will see Lagerfeld shoot pieces of furniture from the Italian brand's collection, including pieces by 20th century designers such as Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, Gerrit Rietveld, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti and Rodolfo Dordoni.
The teaser image on this post released for the series, shows Lagerfeld in the process of photgraphing Ponti's Superleggera 699 chair, the light ashwood chair that the Italian designer and architect created for Cassina in 1957.
The series will mark the first time that Lagerfeld has collaborated with a furniture brand for a photographic project.
“Karl Lagerfeld’s authentic eye enhances the singular characteristics of the Cassina products," says Gianluca Armento, Cassina's brand director. "Each photograph emphasises a silhouette, the elegance of particular finishes, the luxury of a detail and the seduction of the materials.”
The collaboration with Cassina is the latest project to grow out of Lagerfeld's interest in photography. Since debuting as a photographer in 1987, the German designer has shot for fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Numéro, as well as working on advertising campaigns for the brands he oversees: Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous label.
Lagerfeld's photography will be on display at Cassina's Paris showroom between 31 January 2013 and 10 March 2013
