Unless you've recently been to another planet, you'll have heard about Sandy, the superstorm that ripped through the Caribbean and the East Coast of America last week. The ASW HQ in Meatpacking was forced to close as the storm shut off power to the lower half of Manhattan, and only now is back up and running.
Sandy left millions without electricity, water and ultimately for some, their home. Currently numbered at 180, the death toll rises daily as more victims, at first thought to be stranded, are found to have succumbed to the power of the surge.
As the world focused on the US elections, the horror and devastation of Sandy continues to unfold, with an estimated 1 million people entering their eighth day without electricity.
Many areas in and around New York and New Jersey (as well as throughout the Caribbean) are running out of food, water and basic goods, and they desperately need help. If you aren't near enough to the city to volunteer in person, we urge you to help the thousands of people who in the space of one evening lost everything by donating whatever you can.
