A new resort hotel will be gracing the Maldives coastline in 2013, courtesy of luxury goods conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, known as LVMH. The Maisons Cheval Blanc resort, whose 46 high-end luxury villas are currently under construction, will be situated on the island of Randheli in Noonu Atoll.
Maleeh Jamal, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in the Republic of Maldives, commented in an interview that the country has become the go-to destination for the most innovative luxury developments. The island nation, located in the Indian Ocean, is a chain of twenty-six atolls (coral islands). The Maldives sees a number of high-profile visitors on vacation every year; the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, brought his new wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, to the islands on their 2011 honeymoon.

The new hotel resort will be one of just four Maisons Cheval Blanc being opened by LVMH; the other three are in Egypt, the Sultanate of Oman and Paris. LVMH officials noted that they are aiming to bring an ultra-refined, contemporary vision of the French art of hospitality to these developments. LVMH, the brand behind champagne company Moët and fashion house Louis Vuitton, added in a press release:
