    Manet Portraying Life

    by Joelle February 4, 2013
    by Joelle February 4, 2013

The Royal Academy of Arts presents the first major exhibition in the UK to showcase Edouard Manet’ s portraiture. The exhibition examines the relationship between Manet’ s portrait painting and his scenes of modern life. By translating portrait sitters into actors in his genre paintings, Manet guarantees the authenticity of the figures that populate his scenes of contemporary life and asserts a new, more potent relationship between Realism and Modernity. Manet: Portraying Life includes over 50 paintings spanning the career of this archetypal modern artist together with a selection of pastels and contemporary photographs. It brings together works from both public and private collections across Europe, Asia, Brazil and the USA.

    De Gournay-ize Me Please

    by Joelle January 22, 2013
    by Joelle January 22, 2013

Many days, as I wander through London’s trendiest and chicest spaces, I am often taken by the beautiful spaces and environments. Quite recently though – I think I have fallen in love. Yes love; and it wasn’t because of a charismatic accent or sharp attire – this time I was struck by vibrant colors, meticulous details , and spectacular beauty. In case I haven’t made myself quite clear, this article worthy of my admiration was the nothing more than the de Gournay hand painted wallpapers.

In 1985 Tim and Kit Kemp opened their first property, the Dorset Square Hotel and in doing so introduced a new breed of luxury to the London hotel market. At the Rue d’Anjou in the infamous 8th arrondiss At the Rue d’Anjou in the infamous 8th arrondissement of Paris, the good folks from Blackcode and Moma linked up to create RAN, a contemporary Japanese restaurant tinted with shades of French gastronomy. It will make your mouth water faster than you can spell the three letters in its name. The modern establishment is still young and full of surprises. The first of which is its décor and setting, coupled with a chic and modern sense of design and equanimity. Nothing ever feels cold at RAN, especially this summer, since the restaurant will be presenting its very first summer menu. To make sure the place looked like the sleek ambition we can find in the kitchen, MOMA and Blackcode reached out to interior architect Tristan Auer. The mind behind the interior design and feel of Parisian landmarks like Les Bains, Astair, or the Hotel de Crillon has brought a modern twist, with pop and neon accents, in a very typical setting....#japanesecuisine #japanesefusionrestaurant #parisrestaurant #pariswithjoelle #parissoffdeco23 #tristanauer

De Gournay’s Paris showroom at 15 Rue des Saints De Gournay’s Paris showroom at 15 Rue des Saints Peres, in the left bank enclave of St. Germain has for over a decade been a celebrated locale and a well-known face for the company. Great fun discovering the recently launched “ Ki Great fun discovering the recently launched “ Kiss” collection, designed by object and furniture designer Sebastian Bergne. It’s a family of compact upholstered pieces gathered around a carefully proportioned small armchair. Generous volumes barely touch to form delicately balanced, almost sensual, yet functional compositions. It is these arrangements of form that challenge our expected construction of furniture and become exceptional. This project is part of the recent development of upholstered furniture projects by Pierre Frey in collaboration with various international designers under the art direction of Sam Barron.#pierefrey #frenchdesign #parisoffdeco
