One of the most extraordinary experiences during my last 30 years as a treasure hunter, was to discover a month ago, the Botteghe D’Arte laboratory located in the former stables of the Su Gologone hotel near the city Oliena in Sardinia .
Thanks to the architectural genius of the artist from Nuoro GA Sulas, Peppeddu Palimodde in the 60s and his wife Pasqua, they created a superb and refined hospitality tradition. And like at the Colombe d’Or in Saint Paul de Vence, the couple like to surround themselves with notable artists in the sixties giving birth with time to one of the most important private collections of art.
The whole structure has been enriched by their daughter who I had the pleasure to meet in person, Giovanna Palimodde. With her tremendous passion for beauty and crafts, Giovanna continued to explore the island’s artists since the beginning of last century until today. Her large start-up creative laboratory produced the unpaired furniture of the hotel’s 60 suites, restaurant, large and winery. Every corner in the garden’s property has artwork that turns the place into a magic discovery in harmony with nature in the ‘ Su Gologone style” and was admired by guests such as Madonna and Richard Gere.
Hotel guests are invited to learn paint, embroider, furnish, decorate, sew, make jewelry and pottery like to locals part of which will be sold at the hotel’s boutique in favor of the island’s crafts incentive.
