The Manner SoHo Luxury Hotel emerges as an unexpected burst of warmth in a city dominated by concrete neutrals and corporate glass. As Manhattan’s newest design destination, this boutique property represents a sophisticated dialogue between Italian craftsmanship and Scandinavian restraint, reimagined for contemporary SoHo.

Discover The Manner SoHo Luxury Hotel Experience

From the moment you grasp the cool malachite door handle, The Manner signals a departure from conventional luxury hospitality. There’s no formal check-in desk here—instead, you’re welcomed like a regular at a private club. Sharp-eyed staff, dressed in custom Scandinavian minimalist pieces, move through the space with quiet purpose, anticipating needs before they arise.

“We approached the project as an exploration of texture and time,” explains Jeanne Gang, founder of Studio Gang, whose team spent eighteen months studying the building’s original blueprints. “The question wasn’t just how to preserve the structure, but how to create dialogue between its industrial heritage and contemporary craftsmanship.”

The Manner SoHo: A New Standard in Luxury Accommodations

The 96 rooms serve as intimate galleries where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary design innovation. Custom wardrobes by Bottega Ghianda’s master craftsmen anchor each space, while headboards wrapped in leather from a sixth-generation Tuscan tannery add tactile luxury. The result is an environment that rewards close inspection while maintaining its atmosphere of effortless sophistication.

This dialogue manifests most eloquently in the ground floor lobby, where original cast-iron columns, stripped to reveal decades of patina, stand against walls finished in a custom polished plaster by Matteo Brioni. The Mantuan artisan’s specialized technique—combining raw earth pigments with traditional marmorino—brings a subtle depth to the surfaces that captures both the sharp morning light and the softer glow of dusk filtering through SoHo’s iconic cast-iron facades.

A Study in Materiality

The hotel’s 96 rooms serve as intimate galleries where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary design innovation. Custom wardrobes, their surfaces finished in twelve layers of orange  lacquer by Bottega Ghianda‘s master craftsmen, anchor each space. “The lacquer process alone took four months to perfect,” notes Glenn Pushelberg. “Each layer is hand-polished to achieve a depth that seems to pull you in—it’s almost liquid.”

This attention to finish extends throughout: headboards wrapped in leather from a sixth-generation Tuscan tannery, window seats upholstered in mohair velvet that captures and reflects the afternoon light, and side tables by Francesco Balzano that pair rare Brazilian marble with precision-engineered brass bases. The result is an environment that rewards close inspection while maintaining its atmosphere of effortless sophistication.

The Apartment: Redefining Social Architecture

The fifth floor hosts the hotel’s most ambitious architectural intervention. Here, ‘The Apartment’ presents a new paradigm for hotel social spaces—one that prioritizes intimacy over spectacle, craftsmanship over flash. The 2,000-square-foot space unfolds as a series of interconnected environments, each defined by material transitions rather than hard boundaries.

Dimore Studio’s custom brass archways—their surfaces intentionally unlacquered to allow for natural patination—create subtle thresholds between areas while maintaining visual continuity. Walls clad in petroleum blue lacquer panels (another Bottega Ghianda tour de force) provide a deep, reflective backdrop for an expertly curated collection of contemporary and vintage pieces.

The space’s centerpiece, a monumental dining table, emerged from a collaboration between The Manner’s design team and Vincenzo de Cotiis. Its surface—a single slab of Breccia Capraia marble sourced from the same quarry that supplied the Duomo di Siena—appears to float on a sculptural brass base. “The engineering challenge was considerable,” de Cotiis admits. “We wanted the marble to appear weightless, despite its 1,200-pound mass.”

Light as Material

Illumination plays a crucial role in The Manner’s design narrative. A custom Barovier&Toso chandelier, featuring 142 hand-blown Murano glass elements in graduated amber tones, serves as both light source and sculpture. The piece was conceived specifically for The Apartment’s unique qualities of light, its individual components arranged to catch and refract the natural illumination that floods through the space’s original industrial windows.

The Manner Experience: Your SoHo Sanctuary

At The Manner, the concept of luxury hospitality has been thoughtfully reimagined. Unlike typical hotels where public spaces blur the line between guest and visitor, The Manner creates an exclusive sanctuary for its residents. The Apartment, accessible only to hotel guests, becomes your private living room in SoHo—a place to unwind as naturally as you would at home. Order room service to enjoy on the velvet sofas, have the hotel arrange an intimate dinner from The Landing, or simply spend an afternoon with a rare design volume from the curated library.

Here, there are no televisions to disturb the peace, no background music to compete with conversation. Instead, you’ll find carefully considered spaces that encourage genuine connection and reflection. As evening falls, watch the sun set over SoHo’s rooftops with a perfectly crafted cocktail from your room, gather with friends in The Apartment’s dining room, or simply absorb the cultural richness of your day’s explorations in perfect tranquility. The space transforms throughout the day just as your own home would—from morning coffee over the papers to evening digestifs in the soft glow of custom lighting.

Dining: Beyond The Apartment

The Landing, the hotel’s signature restaurant, transforms throughout the day like a well-directed theatrical production. Morning light streams through soaring windows onto red lacquered tables, where downtown creatives linger over perfectly crafted espresso and artisanal pastries. The space is anchored by a striking ceiling fresco by Piero Manai—the late Bolognese master’s only work in New York—while custom lighting by Venini bathes diners in a warm glow that makes every table feel like the best seat in the house.

In the more intimate Lounge, a dramatic site-specific installation by Francesco Clemente wraps the space in Mediterranean mythology. Leather banquettes by Bottega Ghianda and vintage table lamps sourced from Milan’s Nilufar Gallery create the perfect setting for spontaneous meetings or quiet nightcaps.

The bar, a sculptural piece in rouge royale marble designed by Vincenzo De Cotiis, serves as both architectural centerpiece and stage for some of downtown’s most interesting conversations. Here, a curated menu of small plates from Chef Marco Stabile (formerly of Florence’s Ora d’Aria) complements an extensive Italian wine list, with staff who know when to appear and when to let conversations flow undisturbed.
